Woodmansey’s King Street playground refurbishment

Woodmansey’s King Street playground gets an active play refurbishment makeover

In just three weeks, we’ve transformed the play area at King Street Park in Woodmansey, East Yorkshire.

Designing an active space for toddlers to teens

King Street Park in Woodmansey already had a play area, but it was in need of some love and attention, so back in May 2018 we created a design to give it an upgrade.  We wanted to design play areas within the park that would provide fun and active play for children of all age groups, from toddlers to teens.

We were over the moon when our tender was successful, and Woodmansey Parish Council awarded us the contract!

What’s in the refurbished playground?

The refurbished King Street Park playground includes a real mix of exciting and innovative play equipment.  We’re especially proud of the playground feature piece, the Chimps Challenge!

 Chimps Challenge - Tower

The Chimps Challenge is fantastic for inspiring active play in children aged 7years and above.  It features a clatter bridge, scramble nets, a swinging hammock, monkey hoops, a climbing panel, and a 3.7 metre high tower. The balance, coordination and upper body strength challenges are great for older children, and the ground level activities are perfect for younger children too!

The Chimps Challenge and other play areas for children aged 7 and over sit at the rear of the play area; but at the front there’s nest swings for toddlers and other inclusive play areas. These include the quirky Fairy Bridge Tower from our standard play range, where children climb the bridge to the tower and slide down the slide.

But that’s not all! We’ve also given the existing playground equipment a modern makeover with a new painted finish; and have refreshed the play surfaces with a new skim of wetpour rubber.  This type of rubber is a brilliant safety surface that absorbs impact and water, so it can be used all year round.

Sports area upgrade

As well as the playground refurbishment we also upgraded the sports equipment at the other side King Street Park by installing a small multi-use games area.  This area includes a basketball hoop, two activity panels for cricket and ball games, and a goal end.  The goal end has a back panel, so there’s no need to chase half the way across the park to retrieve your ball!

Meeting the needs of the budget and the community

We focused the budget for King Street Park on getting the absolute most out of the play areas.  We did this by choosing play equipment that complemented the environment, using the existing infrastructure as much as possible to keep the costs down, and adding elements to the design to protect the privacy of people living in neighbouring properties.

We’re always confident we can provide value for money together with the highest standard of safety, materials, work and after care.

Working on site

Work on King Street Park started in October 2018.  Our Contracts Manager Martin and the Playscheme installation team even had some little site visitors to see how their exciting new play area was developing!

After just three weeks, everything was installed and ready: the children of Woodmansey now have a newly refurbished active play space!
