Robbing Boredom Blind: a Bullseye for Fun!

The project aimed to infuse a sense of legendary adventure into the historic Nottingham Castle by designing an adventure play area that would not only engage young imaginations but also integrate harmoniously with the castle’s storied past.

A Playground of Natural Beauty and Adventure

One of the standout features of the Robin Hood adventure Play Area is the use of Robinia, a hardwood known for its durability and natural resistance to decay. This material perfectly complements the castle’s historic charm and provides a natural, tactile experience for children. The twists and curves of the Robinia evoke the feeling of climbing real trees in Sherwood Forest, adding to the immersive experience. It’s like being right there with Robin Hood, climbing through the trees and avoiding the Sheriff’s clutches!

Extra Touches to Enhance the Adventure

To further enhance the Robin Hood theme, the play area incorporates a variety of decorative elements, including:

• Decorative swords and shields: Encourage imaginative play and role-playing. Every child can feel like a brave outlaw, ready to defend the poor and outsmart the rich.
• Castle-themed flags: Add a touch of medieval authenticity. These flags are so colourful and majestic, they might even make the King jealous!
• Arrow slits in the walls: Create a sense of adventure and intrigue. Children can pretend to be archers, defending the castle from the Sheriff’s attack.
