Four New Play Zones for All Saints CE Junior School

After transforming the outdoor play area of their infant school previously, we have just completed another monumental play scheme at All Saints CE VC School in Hessle, but this time at their junior school. Take a look!

All Saints CE VC Junior School is based in Hessle, Hull and in March of 2016, we were asked to submit designs for a brand new outdoor play area development after the last successful project we completed at their infant school counterpart.

As their existing outdoor area was so large, we agreed that we would break this down into four different zones, each offering equipment that would appeal to different age groups, physical ability and stage in development. With this in mind, we created a Fitness Activity Zone, Trim Trail Area, Quiet/Gardening Area and Courtyard Area.

Fitness Activity Zone

The Fitness Activity Zone has many separate elements which include a Bouldering Wall, four Activity Panels, four Skipping Circles, Thermoplastic Target Circles and Line Markings, two Woodland Benches, a Dance Mirror, two Mini Goals, two Hoops and eight sets of 'We Dance' Markings.

Our Skipping Circle Marking is perfect for children to practice their skipping, with the added challenge of making sure they stay in the circle while they're jumping up and down! These are an excellent addition to any sports area or MUGA.

Our popular goal and net is perfect for games like Netball and Basketball, while the goal mouth provides the main focus of any kick around sport.

Trim Trail Area

This area has so much to do for all ages, with challenges a plenty. To maximise on adventure, we designed this to include a Traverse Net, Log Roller, Junior Tramtrax and Swinging Steps, Multi-Purpose Platform, and three Woodland Benches.

The Junior Tramtrax and Swinging Steps are extremely challenging and great for building on fitness levels. Including four swinging steps suspended on chains, children can traverse across, building confidence and strength.

We also incorporated a honeycomb lawn matting for the surfacing of this project, as it not only looks good, but it is also extremely safe and prevents against scrapes and any other injury.

Quiet Area/Gardening Area

If children are feeling less adventurous and full of energy, then the quiet area is ideal for them. With a bespoke premier shelter, two workstations and a large chalkboard, this area is very peaceful.

We installed Trellis Panels and six Ballstop Planters to get involved with nature, plant seeds and watch flowers grow over the weeks and months. Children find this hugely calming and activities, such as gardening can help with both personal development and social skills. The chalkboard also provides a space for a teacher to talk through their lesson and make notes on the board.

Courtyard Area

The Courtyard Area is a nice and peaceful zone to sit out with friends, chat and have lunch. It can also be used for quiet study, or perhaps even arts and crafts.

Within this area we have included two locker style storage units that can house toys and drawing materials to use outdoors on warmer days.

Completing the four zones, All Saints Junior School now have a playground to be proud of, encouraging play and study in a much more integrated and inclusive way. Both children and teachers are extremely happy with the work we have undertaken and we were proud to be a part of the transformation, as always.
