The Rope Bridge is designed to encourage and develop teamwork, communication and develop practical skills. The two boards provided are used to traverse the stumps sequentially and then return to the start, whilst threading a rope through the poles as shown. Depending on the age of the children the rope can then be tied and knotted off, or have it done for them, to complete the task.

Restricted space promotes co-operation in completing the task, particularly where the rope requires continual attention in pulling it through the holes, taking up the slack to avoid snagging the rope. Tasks such as knotting off the rope can help develop manual dexterity of older children particularly when more complicated knots can be introduced.
